The fifth concert in the Colony Concerts series in the atmospheric church in Wilhelminaoord will be performed on Sunday afternoon, February 5, by the Dianto Reed Quintet, first prize winners of the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours 2021. The concert starts at 3 p.m.
The Dianto Reed Quintet is a chamber music group formed by five Spanish young musicians consisting of: Maria González Bullon (oboe), Ovidi Martí Garasa (saxophone), Maria Losada Burgo (bassoon), Erik Steven Rojas Toapanta (bass clarinet) and Maria Luisa Olmos Ros (clarinet). The name of the group means ‘carnation’ in Esperanto; carnation because it is a typical Mediterranean flower and Esperanto because it is considered a universal language, like music.
Dianto Reed Quintet offers a timbric versatility that can create a unique sound, thanks to the combination of these 5 woodwinds: clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, saxophone and oboe.
After studying at various Spanish conservatories, Dianto Reed Quintet members participate in various young national and international orchestras, such as the Youth Orchestra of Spain, the National Youth Orchestra and the Youth Orchestra of the European Union, among others. Nowadays they continue their master studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where they have received master classes from renowned musicians such as Miriam Pastor, Simon van Holen, Arno Borkamp, Saskia Mees or Bas Pollard.
The Dianto Reed Quintet has won the First Prize at the Storioni Concours 2021 and is one of the finalists of the Dutch Classical Talent 2022/2023 (with a final to be held). They recently won first prize at the ‘XV Concurso Nacional de Música de Cámara Villa de Cox’ in Alicante, Spain. They performed in, among others, Podium Witteman, De Classics, Spiegezaal Avrotros and for NPO Radio 4.
The beautiful pieces ‘Identidades’ and parts from ‘All about contrast’ are on the program for February 5th.
