It was a difficult few hours for window cleaner Dennie Schwartz from Vught. While he was cleaning the windows of a residential care center on Merpatistraat in Vught, his aerial work platform broke down. Dennie had forgotten his phone and was stuck in the pouring rain. Only after a few hours did a passerby call the fire brigade for him.
“He asked, ‘What’s the matter, my boy?’ I said, ‘I have to get out’.” Dennie tells his story when he’s back on his feet. “He was an old man so getting help wasn’t that fast either.”
The window cleaner can laugh about his adventure. “A typical Monday morning. The cherry picker went into protection mode. Then it doesn’t respond to anything. It was super cold. It was very stupid that I didn’t have my phone with me.”
It was first reported to the fire service that it would be an elevator lockup. “The fire brigade first came with a normal ladder. That didn’t work, that became too dangerous. Then the aerial work platform came. I now have an exciting story for the pub. But first a cup of hot coffee, I need that, says the numb window cleaner.
