Winde shook again due to earthquake, this time with a magnitude of 1.7

For the second time in 24 hours there has been an earthquake near Winde. Around 2 pm this afternoon, the earth was shaking with a force of 1.7 on the Richter scale. There is no information yet about any damage.

This is evident from measurement data from the KNMI. The epicenter of the quake is near nature, just over 2.5 kilometers outside the village. That’s about the same place where the earthquake happened last night.

“It seems like a coincidence,” says seismologist Pauline Kruiver of KNMI. “We often see that two earthquakes occur in close succession in the same place.” The second quake, according to the seismologist, could have been an aftershock of yesterday, but also a completely new earthquake.

Although the quake again had a low magnitude, Kruiver says it is possible that people have again experienced something from it. “Both quakes are on the border of what can be felt, although the chance that people have experienced them is smaller at this time than last night. In the evening there are fewer environmental vibrations than during the day.”

The quake this afternoon was felt in any case in the neighboring village of Bunne. “Now that you mention it, I did hear a bang this afternoon, but I did not associate it with an earthquake,” says Vivian Keulaars, owner of event center De Melkfabriek. “It sounded more like the flapping of a big tractor to me, but you get that quite often here.”

Residents of Winde were also shocked by a loud bang, followed by rumbling, around half past eight last night.
