Despite the registration for the World Music Competition (WMC) in Kerkrade, concert band Concordia from Obbicht has decided not to participate in the international music festival.
The music association reports this on its website. Concordia would play in the first division harmony in the Rodahal in Kerkrade on 17 July.
Not enough time
But during the various lockdowns in recent months, the wind band has suffered a significant backlog in preparation for the WMC.
“We have evaluated the progress of the past few weeks and unfortunately have to conclude that, despite the hard work of the conductor and musicians, not enough progress is being made,” said the association. According to the music association, more time is needed to master the difficult material. “And unfortunately that time is not here.”

First prize
Conductor Alex Schillings and the board support the wind orchestra’s decision not to participate in the WMC in July 2022. At the last WMC in 2017, Concordia received a first prize with praise.
Coronavirus
The WMC is an event every four years and has existed since 1951. The anniversary edition of 2021 was canceled due to the corona pandemic. That edition will therefore take place in 2022, from 7 to 31 July.
Matches
The WMC has competitions for amateur wind orchestras, marching and show bands, percussion ensembles and conductors. Participating companies come from all over the world.
