On the 20th match day of the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund and TSG Hoffenheim fought an intense top game – with the better ending for BVB. Elsewhere, Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfB Stuttgart slid deeper into the crisis, while Bayer Leverkusen celebrated a shooting match.
All votes for the matchday at a glance:
Christian Streich (Coach SC Freiburg): “The crux of the matter are the two situations (Stuttgart’s penalty taken back and Freiburg’s opening goal within a minute, d. Red). At that point we didn’t always have access. In the second half we gained the upper hand and created chances. We did that we kept VfB well away from our own goal and actually only let Kalajdzic head the ball.”
Pellegrino Matarazzo (VfB Stuttgart coach): “We got on well, it was an even game. The sticking point for us was the penalty we didn’t get and it was 0-1 in return. We developed some power after falling behind, but unfortunately that quickly waned again. Then if we concede an unnecessary second goal, then the game will be over in the 70th minute. Now it’s off to a week’s training camp, which will do us good. I’m hoping for more positive next games.”
Sebastian Hoeness (TSG Hoffenheim coach): “I saw early on that we were fighting back today. After 15 minutes it was only going in one direction. We rode one wave after the other. The second half was a power play from us. But we missed scoring the goal. I can’t blame the team, it’s just that the result doesn’t fit at all.”
Marco Rose (Borussia Dortmund coach): “We got in very well. We had a good ten, 15 minutes. After that Hoffenheim got stronger and stronger. We had big problems until the break, the equalizer was deserved. In the end we took home the win, which was flattering for us fought.”
Stefan Leitl (coach SpVgg Greuther Furth): “We started very well and played very well. But you have to say that we’re relatively happy going into the break with the lead. In the second half we were very compact and largely controlled the game. All in all it was one thing good performance against a good team. The fact that we got five points from the first three games of the second half of the season feels good. At the end of the day we’ll see where the journey goes. We got off to a good start, that’s what we want move on.”
Bo Svensson (FSV Mainz 05 coach): “We started the game very, very badly, also in terms of attitude. You can’t go into a Bundesliga game like we did today. We have to question that. That was a deserved defeat today. Of course it’s not ideal, when I’m up there, but that’s no excuse. I let my team down a little bit today too. I’m extremely disappointed with the loss, but most of all with the attitude and way we approached the game.”
Adi Hütter (Borussia Mönchengladbach coach): “It was rather a game with few chances in terms of clear chances to score. Union made two goals out of one chance. After 20 minutes we played well, my team showed a different face than against Hannover. In terms of performance, both in tactics as well as in running, I can blame my team for 0.0.”
Urs Fischer (Coach Union Berlin): “We started the game well, but then we didn’t start consistently. We were lucky there too. Both teams didn’t create many chances in the second half. Then Gladbach can take the lead and we almost shoot in return the goal. That suits the situation of the two teams a bit, that in the end we are definitely the happier winners.”
Gerardo Seoane (Bayer Leverkusen manager): “It was a good performance. We were very focused right from the start. We started very well and made mistakes. We had a weak phase in the second half, but then the team recovered well. In my opinion, a deserved win.”
Markus Weinzierl (FC Augsburg coach): “Of course the result is okay. It hurts us a lot. Five goals is a lot. We helped because we defend carelessly. At the beginning of the second half we came out better, made the connection, I had hopes. Then we got it we still conceded three goals. We really need to improve there. The opponent really gave us problems with the quality.”
Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): “It’s a very disappointing defeat. We tried everything, had a lot of situations for the goal. We then missed our chances, our self-confidence went down a bit and Bielefeld’s up. In the best case we would have 0 today: 0 played, so we lost a point.”
Frank Kramer (coach Arminia Bielefeld): “Today we played well against a very good opponent. It was a great team effort and there’s always something in it. Patrick Wimmer is always good for a goal or a goal action, that’s what he’s on the field for. That’s what he has today Of course he did a great job, he has Rabona in his blood.”
Thomas Reis (coach VfL Bochum): “The draw is okay. But it wasn’t impossible for us to win. We’re happy with the point, we can share it amicably.”
Steffen Baumgart (Coach 1. FC Cologne): “It’s okay. Both teams played at a similar level, but also made mistakes. We didn’t have the freshness to pull the thing anymore. The boys were broken.”
