Michael Wimmer will remain coach of VfB Stuttgart at least until the weekend.
The 42-year-old should also look after the Swabians in the Bundesliga at Borussia Dortmund, as sports director Sven Mislintat said after the 6-0 win in the DFB Cup against Arminia Bielefeld on “Sky”.
“For me, this is a very, very pleasant topic. Because A, it gives us time to find the best possible solution. And one thing is also clear: even if someone else comes, Michi is part of the solution.”
Mislintat did not comment on whether and when another coach would come. The 49-year-old also did not want to confirm that the two top candidates are the clubless Dane Jess Thorup and Ajax Amsterdam coach Alfred Schreuder.
“I would neither confirm the names at this point, nor is there a tendency. It is clear that Michi will be on the bench at the weekend,” said Mislintat.
Wimmer himself is happy about the trust. “It’s obviously a vote of confidence from the club and I’m happy about that,” he said. According to his own statement, he does not think about whether he could look after the team longer.
“I have a clear agreement with Sven Mislintat that I’ll help out until someone else is there, so I don’t do anything else,” said Wimmer.
