Wimbledon, tomorrow’s program with Djokovic and six Italians

Six Italians and many champions. Thus opens the anomalous 2022 edition of Wimbledon, which will officially start tomorrow at 12 Italian (11 local). There will be no Russians and Belarusians, the tournament will not award points for the ATP and WTA rankings but the charm of the Championships survives the bad weather: they will be two weeks of great tennis, which will end on Sunday 10 July with the men’s final. The dream is that Matteo Berrettini is still there to fight for the title, but in the meantime we have to wait a little longer to see Italy’s number 1 at work: the pupil of Vincenzo Santopadre will make his debut on Tuesday, against Christian Garin.

We therefore start with the upper part of the men’s board and the lower one for women. The first Italian to take the field will be Andrea Vavassori: the tennis player from Turin, born in 1995, will make his debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam and will inaugurate the program on field 17 against Frances Tiafoe, therefore starting at 12 Italian. The other blues will be on the field in the afternoon, with the strong risk of contemporaneity since everyone will play in the third match on their respective fields: Sinner-Wawrinka on 2, the Trevisan-Cocciaretto derby on 4, Bronzetti-Lu on 9 and Griekspoor-Fognini on the 16.

Eyes obviously focused on Center Court: reigning champion Novak Djokovic, on the field against South Korean Soon-woo Kwon, will inaugurate the 2022 edition at Wimbledon. Raducanu-Van Uytvanck and Murray-Duckworth are scheduled to follow. On field 1 it will be up instead – in order – to Jabeur (against Bjorklund), Alcaraz (against Struff) and Kerber (against Mladenovc). There is no shortage of very interesting challenges scattered here and there on the other fields: Kontaveit and Sakkari will take the field respectively before and after Sinner on field 2, on 3 they will play first Hurkacz and then the American Collins, Ruud will open the program on field 12 against Ramos-Vinolas .
