Wimbledon starts with four Dutchmen and without Russians

Wimbledon will start on Monday with four Dutch participants in singles. At the third grand slam tournament of the year, tennis players from Russia and Belarus are not welcome.

On the first day of the grass tournament in London, Tim van Rijthoven and Tallon groenpoor come into action. Van Rijthoven will take on the Argentinian Federico Delbonis, Greek track will meet Fabio Fognini from Italy.

Van Rijthoven received a wildcard from the organization after winning the title in Rosmalen two weeks ago. The 25-year-old number 105 in the world will make his debut at a grand slam tournament.

At Wimbledon there are no points to earn for the world ranking this year. The tennis associations ATP and WTA have decided this in response to Wimbledon’s decision to exclude the Russians and Belarussians.

Title holder Novak Djokovic will be the first to act on the Center Court on Monday. The Serb will meet the Korean Kwon Soon-woo at 2.30 pm Dutch time.
