Wimbledon: Match canceled! Zverev waits in vain

Alexander Zverev waited in vain for his opening match at the 136th All England Championships in Wimbledon on Wednesday.

Originally, the Hamburg player should have played against the qualifier Gijs Brouwer (Netherlands) on Tuesday, but the duel had to be postponed by one day due to the persistent rain.

Because there were also delays on Wednesday due to renewed precipitation, Zverev’s match after the five-set thriller between Dominic Thiem (Austria) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) would have started too late. Jule Niemeier’s late first-round match had previously been postponed to Thursday.

Because of the delays caused by the rain interruptions, numerous late matches were canceled on Wednesday. This also affected Maximilian Marterer’s second round match against Michael Mmoh (USA).
