Iga Swiadek has reached the quarter -finals in Wimbledon for the second time in her career.
The Polish won 6: 4 and 6: 1 against Clara Tauson on Monday evening (07.07.2025), who initially spoke several times with the referee in order to complain about the supposedly slippery lawn, later had health problems.
In the quarter -finals, Swiadek meets the Russian Ludmilla Samsonova.
As number four in the world rankings, in Wimbledon only in eight, Swiatek reached the round of the best eight players at the Grand Slam tournament in London for the second time after 2023. Two years ago, she surprisingly lost to Ukrainian Elina Switolina in the quarterfinals.
“Clara told me that she was sick last night. So I wish her a speedy recovery,” said Swiatek, who was very satisfied with her performance in the second set and feels very good overall in the days in London.
“I know that Ludmilla Samsonova can play very well and has a good serve. But I will now listen to what my trainer gives me and be ready.”
Swiatek first with problems with the serve
Tauson, number 22 in the world, had switched off the Kazakhin Elena Rybakina, which was better placed by eleven places, after she had never got beyond the first round on Church Road.
Swiatek started the match with two double errors and received a break in the first game. The second premium game of the Polish was also lost, but she caught her way in the course of the first set and won the passage 6: 4 because she still had many balls against the more powerful Danish and then benefited from her opponent’s mistakes. Appropriately, Tauson made a double error in the set ball.
Tauson without chance in the second set
Tauson then took a medical break. She seemed to have problems with breathing and received a medicine.
Her game was nowhere near as powerful as in the first set. Swiadek, on the other hand, is getting more and more Winner. After an hour and five minutes of play, she converted her first match ball.
