Wimbledon Djokovic- Norrie: results, crossings, precedents

Nole is clearly the favorite in the semifinal against the left-handed tennis player, faced at the ATP Finals in Turin: 6-2 6-1 for the Serbian

Having overcome the obstacle Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals, with the comeback after being under two sets to zero and the victory in the fifth, Novak Djokovic is one step away from his 32nd final in a Grand Slam, the eighth at Wimbledon. For the Serbian tennis player there is a semi-final widely within reach, there is no point in hiding: it was already clear once the Championships draw was released and it is even more evident after the early exits of Hubi Hurkacz and Casper Ruud. Cameron Norrie can be a very dangerous player on grass, but bookmakers have no big doubts: it would take a surprising result, probably too much, not to see Djokovic still in the final at Wimbledon.

the only challenge

Norrie, like Djokovic, won in five sets in the quarter-finals, mocking David Goffin after being down two sets to one. For the British – born in South Africa and raised in New Zealand – it was the second win in the fifth of the tournament, following the second round victory against Spaniard Jaume Munar, while the other three successes all came in three sets. Nole, like Norrie, also lost four sets in the tournament: before the two against Sinner, the Serbian had left a set in the first round against Soon-woo Kwon and in the round of 16 against Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven. The two players meet again after facing each other at the ATP Finals in Turin, in the only challenge: clear victory for Nole, 6-2 6-1 in the group.

the numbers

For Norrie this is the first Grand Slam semi-final of her career and the 17th at ATP level, the second on grass after last year at Queen’s, with the victory against Denis Shapovalov before the defeat in the final against Matteo Berrettini. The data is very interesting: Cameron has won all the last nine semifinals played, this year he is at three (in Delray Beach against Tommy Paul, in Acapulco against Stefanos Tsitsipas and in Lyon against Holger Rune). However, there is a decidedly negative balance against players who have a higher ranking (Norrie is number 12 in the world, Djokovic 3): the left-handed tennis player has won only once – precisely against Tsitsipas in Acapulco – in the last 10 games played. Speaking of left-handed players: Djokovic has a record of 40 wins and 13 defeats in the Slams, 11 of which came at the hands of Rafael Nadal (the other two to beat him were Fernando Verdasco and Jurgen Melzer).
