Wim Willaert is writing a book (thanks to covid!)
The clouds play a leading role, they symbolize creativity and a bit of chaos, of which Wim Willaert from Nieuwpoort is such a big fan. Wim Willaert, author: “I became a writer, it’s bad, but it’s thanks to covid. Because I was a sloth. But with covid I was cooped up all by myself half the time when there was quarantine. I was going crazy. Writing saved me from going crazy.”
The book is about an 11-year-old boy who is fascinated by clouds. But it’s not just literally about clouds, but also about clouds in our head: creativity. Clouds are elusive and immeasurable, chaotic. The author is therefore fascinated by chaos theory. “I order chaos with chaos. I’m not busy with my role of: now I’m going to say it like this in pictures. Yes, no, that’s not what I’m doing. I throw myself in there like chaos. The result is good, it is better than if I had measured everything.”
“Better monkeys than sheep”
The book wants to make people think about parenting. Rather creative and curious monkeys than a herd of sheep in the classroom, says Wim Willaert. Parents and teachers must see children more as full-fledged human beings. “What kind of pretension is that that we are adults. That is a kind of racism against children. Those aren’t people at all. That’s actually part of the animals. How can you learn anything then? Come here, sit. Aporte, you shouldn’t be doing that. They are people. I want to tell that with my book.”
Wim has now got a taste for writing and is already working on a second book: a police novel.
