WIlma Murto can be the best in the world

The European champion has all the ingredients to be the best in the world, as long as the jump with longer wings takes shape.

– A very hard performance.

Wilma Murro’s European indoor championship was approved by Iltalehti’s athletics expert Arto Bryggare. Last summer’s European champion once again scored a hard result at the right moment.

– I took it for granted that (Tin) Wolves win. He has really been better than Wilma during the entire reign. But when it came to the place where the result had to be made, Wilma took over the job bluntly, Bryggare describes.

The break crossed a new SE high of 480. Sutej played with risk and failed.

– Wilma’s physique is really fierce. She is superior compared to all her other European racing sisters, Bryggare reveals the root cause of the victory.

Murro’s reign culminated in EC gold. Bryggare reminds that the pole vaulter’s early season was still difficult as a whole.

– This race and the opening of the season in Kuortane were good, the other races were weak compared to Wilma’s performance level. But of course when you win European Championship gold, you can’t describe the hall season as bad, Bryggare laughs.

A big if

Murto has driven in new, longer fins. In the EC finals in Istanbul, Murto tried to overcome the height of 491 with them, but the bar did not stay up.

According to Bryggare, becoming you through new fences is very important for Murro’s development.

– When the wings are longer and stiffer, you can use them to achieve even better results.

Even a magical five meter limit?

– Of course. But it’s a big if right now. The job is not in the glove. Wilma still has a long way to go to five meters. But when he gets his jump working with the new blade, five meters is completely possible, Bryggare assures.

Best in the world

The World Championships in Budapest will take place in August. So Murro has plenty of time to hone his technique.

If he succeeds in that and stays fit, Bryggare believes that Murro will fight for World Cup medals.

– The world’s best pole vaulters currently come from outside Europe. 480–490 is already the kind of result level at which you can fight for the dullest medals. If Wilma gets to you with longer fins, she will fight for medals and even the win.

Bryggare uploads a tickling assessment of the 24-year-old Finn. As if as a motivator for taking over new wings.

– When jumping with them takes shape, we are talking about an athlete who is number one in the world, Bryggare downloads.
