Willy and René are disappointed with the PSV defense: ‘Teze is just covering air’

PSV will qualify for the main tournament of the Champions League, but defensively it really needs to be much better. That is what club icons Willy and René van de Kerkhof say in the Willy and René Podcast of Omroep Brabant. Jordan Teze in particular has to suffer. “He really hadn’t played in our time,” says Willy. “With that 2-1 by Rangers, he is covering the air. He does not look behind him, does not use a sliding. According to Peter Bosz, there is much more to that boy, but I am very curious where that is.”

Brother René is also discouraged by the defensive slips at PSV. “Then it’s Sangaré again, then Ramalho again and then Teze again. That is not possible in contemporary football, that is immediately punished. That really has to be removed.” René maintains that the current defenders should be able to reach a higher level. Willy is a lot more skeptical. “This is a matter of lack of quality. We really need reinforcements.”

Taken from Willy

Despite the two goals given away, Willy and René are confident of a good outcome next week in Eindhoven. “If you don’t make it against this team again, then you really have nothing to do with the Champions League,” says Willy. The brothers think it is a good thing that the KNVB has given PSV and the other European playing clubs the weekend off. “Only it is also annoying for the players,” says Willy. “What do you have to do on Sunday? Mow the lawn?”

There is special praise for Saibari who enabled Sangaré to make 1-1 with a brilliant transfer. A goal that looks exactly like a goal by the Dutch national team in 1983 against Spain. Peter Houtman scored but who stepped over the ball? “That was me,” says Willy proudly. I thought: I’ll give it to Houtman.” René obviously sees it differently: “Well, I think you just couldn’t reach that ball.”

In the new podcast episode, Willy and René extensively consider next week’s return match against Rangers. The next episode will be next Thursday after that game.
