Television phenomenon (80) candid; he doesn’t have long to live
The book De shy vlegel that Fons de Poel wrote about his bosom friend Willibrord Frequin and which will be presented noisily on 7 February in his ‘second living room’, café Het Bonte Paard in Laren, was unintentionally given a pitch-black epilogue. The main character, once the boldest reporter in the Netherlands, is very seriously ill and will not get better. It was still possible to live with earlier age-related ailments, but the vascular parkinsonism diagnosed last year means the final blow: “I can’t do anything anymore. It is done. I am at.”
