Willem II with a North Holland flavor is much too strong for Telstar

A hard defeat for Telstar at home against Willem II. Nick Doodeman was the absolute star for the visitors with two fantastic goals and an assist. It ended up being 1-5.

The Telstar match was dedicated to Ruud Geels, who passed away last week. The high-scoring striker started his career in 1966 with… White Lions. After an impressive minute of silence it started to storm in Velsen-Zuid. The wind was also the basis of the first goal of the evening. A corner from Nick Doodeman (Venhuizen) surprised Joey Houweling and went straight into the goal: 1-0.

Remarkably, this was not the first time in his career. He had already done that in January 2019, while employed by FC Volendam. Willem II then remained the parent party and became dangerous through Thijs Oosting. This time Houweling reversed the bet. Jeredy Hilterman (Haarlem) doubled the Brabant lead a few minutes later: 2-0. The Telstar goalkeeper almost single-handedly helped the visitors into the saddle by releasing a corner, but Raffael Behounek shot wide.

The game seemed decided quickly in the second half. Goalscorer Hilterman passed the ball and Oosting only had to tap the ball in behind Houweling: 0-3. Not much later, Jesse Bosch even made it 0-4 on Doodeman’s instructions. However, Telstar immediately gave something back through Zakaria Eddahchouri.

Doodeman was accurate again

Yet Telstar’s final offensive was quickly nipped in the bud after a brilliant goal by Doodeman. He took the ball full on the slipper from a falling ball: 1-5. The start of the second half was very goal-rich, but neither team could maintain that average. As a result, Telstar fell hard against the leader.

Jong FC Utrecht will be Telstar’s next opponent in a week and a half. The White Lions start at Sportpark Zoudenbalch from 8 p.m. You can follow that match live during an extra broadcast of NH Sport on NH Radio.
