The Flemish Peter Maes signed his contract as head coach at Willem II on Saturday. This means he is bound to the club until the summer of 2024 and makes him the club’s first foreign coach of this century.
Maes started as a goalkeeper at RSC Anderlecht and Standard Liège, among others. He played in the Europa League with KSC Lokeren and KRC Genk and managed to gain promotion with KV Mechelen. Maes then worked as a trainer at KV Mechelen, KSC Lokeren, KRC Genk, Sint-Truidense VV and Lommel SK.
