Willem II fires trainer Robbemond after lost derby against NAC

Reinier Robbemond has been fired as head coach of Willem II. The club management has decided this after disappointing results.

The 1-4 defeat against rival NAC Breda was the last game in which Robbemond sat on the bench as a trainer in the service of Willem II. He had been ultimately responsible in Tilburg since December 2022, when he took over the duties of the dismissed Kevin Hofland. Willem II made it to the play-offs, but it didn’t get any further than the first round.

Technical director Teun Jacobs saw no sporting improvement this season and is not confident that it will still come under the leadership of Robbemond. “The goal for this season was to return to the DNA of the club, 1-4-3-3 and attractive football. Unfortunately, we do not see any sporting improvement and we have decided to part ways,” he says on the club site.

The home game against MVV is scheduled for next Friday. The current staff members will do the honors for the time being. Willem II is looking for a new head coach.
