Willem II and Mathijsen agree on contract settlement

Willem II has reached an agreement with former technical director Joris Mathijsen about the settlement of his contract. An imminent lawsuit is therefore a thing of the past.

Mathijsen had been inactive for several weeks. The supervisory board of the Tilburg Eredivisie club decided last week to definitively end the collaboration.

“After six years of working together in a professional and pleasant way, I would like to thank the club for the opportunity offered, the confidence to form me as technical director and that I have been able to contribute to the development of the club. I also wish the club, staff and players good luck and positive energy for the final phase of the competition,” says Mathijsen after reaching the agreement.

Mathijsen returned to the club as technical manager in 2016, where he broke through as a player. A year later, he was promoted to technical director. He also played football for Feyenoord, AZ and Hamburger SV, among others.

“We thank Joris once again for the pleasant cooperation and the six years in which he was technically responsible and contributed to the professionalization and success of the club,” said Willem II.
