Murnau’s “Nosferatu” is a classic in film history. A remake of the film is currently being shot. With Willem Dafoe, as the star revealed at the Berlinale.

Until now it was a rumour, but now Willem Dafoe (67) admitted to being part of the cast of the remake of the German horror classic “Nosferatu” (1922). Hence the mustache on his face.

“I don’t really like him, but he’s important for the film,” he says on the sidelines of his Berlinale film “Inside”. “I’ve just come from Prague, where we’re already shooting.”

What role he plays in “Nosferatu” remains a secret. The first bloodsucker in film history was played in 1922 by Max Schreck (1879-1936) from Berlin.

Dafoe played Fright in Shadow of the Vampires 23 years ago. He is surprised that the grave of “Nosferatu” director FW Murnau (1888-1931) is in Stahnsdorf.

“It’s a shame that I have to go back to Prague.” He laughs and finally says: “But now I know where Murnau is and I hope he’s doing well there.”
