The royal couple paid an unannounced visit to Valkenburg on Sunday.
Surprise visit Valkenburg
Almost a year ago, the city of South Limburg had to deal with a major flood. In Valkenburg there was then an estimated 400 million euros in damage. Last year Willem-Alexander and Máxima had already visited to see the damage with their own eyes. They promised to return the following year. They kept their word, because during the Ascension weekend they paid a surprise visit to see how everyone is doing and spoke with residents and entrepreneurs.
Vegan salad for the queen
The royal couple visited the city together with mayor Daan Prevoo. Around noon they ate at Ferry Philippi’s lunchroom in the center. “I had to book a table for three people in the name of the municipality of Valkenburg,” Philippi tells the regional broadcaster L1† “Mayor Prevoo ate a sandwich, the queen a vegan salad and the king bacon and egg.” The costs were borne by the king.
Not much later they grabbed a terrace, where the king enjoyed a beer in the sun. Meanwhile, the king and queen listened to the stories of the Limburgers.
Dark blue jumpsuit
During this surprise visit, Máxima shone in a dark blue jumpsuit with a dark brown belt from Michael Kors. According to Josine Droogendijk of Fashion Queen Maxima this jumpsuit has been around for ten (!) years. Máxima combined the jumpsuit with loafers from Tod’s, a vegan bag from Marina Raphael and a beautiful blue and beige cardigan.
