Will Zakaria’s Chelsea loan end in January? “Standard”: Conversation about the future

So far without use

Midfielder Denis Zakaria is still waiting for his first appearance for the Blues after his last-minute loan from Juventus Turin to Chelsea last Deadline Day. The Swiss sees his World Cup chances dwindling given the lack of playing time. Again “Evening StandardReported, there should be a perspective talk with coach Graham Potter and club owner Todd Boehly later this week, as a result of which there could also be a premature termination of the loan business in January.

Zakaria’s contract in Turin runs until 2026. Although Chelsea have a purchase option of 28 million euros plus possible bonuses, the fact that the club will pull them in view of the current situation is ruled out. Both Potter and his predecessor Thomas Tuchel have so far seen no need to use the former Gladbach player, who played a total of 15 games for the “Old Lady” after his €10 million transfer from the Lower Rhine to Italy at the beginning of the year. The Zakaria position for the Blues is primarily occupied by Italy international Jorginho, whose contract, like N’Golo Kanté’s at Stamford Bridge, expires at the end of the season.

Negotiations about an extension with the two players are currently a priority for the Londoners, writes the English newspaper. Even youngster Carney Chukwuemeka had recently been preferred to Zakaria for substitutions in central midfield. Contrary to the “Standard” report that the 25-year-old was increasingly frustrated due to his current status in the team structure and in view of the World Cup in Qatar, Zakaria himself presented himself as combative in an interview with “The Athletic” last week. “It’s not easy sitting on the bench. I want to play but I have to train hard and improve. And when I play, I have to justify it,” said the 42-time Swiss international.

At least at this point in time, the native of Geneva apparently did not feel any remorse about his change, rather he announced that despite the difficult situation after the change of coach he wanted to continue to “do his best” and “help the team”: “I think that Thomas Tuchel would have helped me in my development. But now we have a new coach and I’m happy with him too.”

“When we first spoke, he told me that I’m the type of player he likes. We have a lot of games before the World Cup break and I think everyone will have their chance until then,” Zakaria continued about his relationship with Potter. In Switzerland’s international matches against Spain (2-1) and the Czech Republic (2-1), the right-footed player was used as a joker. “It would be important for me to get match practice before the World Cup,” Zakaria summed up afterwards and confirmed that he was in regular contact with national coach Murat Yakin about his sporting situation. On Wednesday evening Chelsea meets FC Brentford in the Premier League (from 8:30 p.m. in the TM live ticker) – should Zakaria get the chance to play his first minutes against the “Bees”, this should also have an impact on the talks about the future.
