Will we ever see Peter Gillis on TV again after tonight? ‘I do not think so’

Peter Gillis will close the last season of Massa is Kassa tonight, at least for the time being. But isn’t this just the last time we see him on TV at all? “I think so.”

The controversial TV star Peter Gillis, who keeps the police and judicial system quite busy, will close the tenth season of his reality series ‘Familie Gillis: Massa is Kassa’ on SBS 6 tonight. Despite John de Mol’s enormous PR plan to to polish its image – even Evert Santegoeds was used – the series had to deal with declining ratings.

Wishful thinking

SBS 6 has announced that they will only make a decision about a follow-up to this program when the judge has ruled in the case about the abuse of his ex-girlfriend Nicol Kremers. The hearing was actually scheduled for the end of August, but now that Nicol has filed a report, things have been postponed.

Until when is unclear, but we now know from all those celebrity cases that it could just be next year. In the meantime, SBS 6 will continue to film, just in case Peter does not turn out to be a villain. It is of course extremely wishful thinking, especially now that public opinion has definitely turned against Peter.

Ever on TV?

Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, thinks that tonight will be the last TV show with Peter. “The penultimate Gillis Family was good for 664 thousand viewers last Tuesday, including delayed viewing. That is half of what a repeat of Between Art and Kitsch scored,” she writes on her analysis channel.

She continues: “So tonight is the very last time we see Peter Gillis on TV for the time being. Think that, even if a new season is now being played, the chances are small that we will see this series again on SBS 6 with a new season.

Image damage

John de Mol will ultimately choose eggs for his money, Tina expects. “In addition to all the negative publicity and considerable damage to the station’s image: SBS 6 no longer needs the series, thanks to VI, to achieve okay market shares.”

By the way, Tina concludes: “What surprises me the most is that John de Mol once said yes to this series. After all: John really wanted to become a new RTL 4 with SBS 6 and if one program absolutely does not suit RTL4, it is this programme. So amazing that this program ever came to be…”
