One of the most important weapons against the coronavirus remains ventilation. At an open-air festival site, in open-wall tents or in a well-ventilated indoor area, the risk of virus transmission is not much greater than anywhere else. For that reason, virologist Van Ranst is not too concerned about corona infections at the summer festivals. “A lot of people will come together at the festivals, the risk will not be much greater than in family circles,” he explains.
In addition to ventilation, there are a few other basic rules that remain important during the festival season. For example, vulnerable people in crowded places should still wear an FFP2 mask and it is better to avoid crowded, poorly ventilated indoor areas. “In addition, it remains important to get vaccinated and get a booster shot,” emphasizes the virologist.
