After the Oscars scandal, which Will Smith took on with a resounding slap in the face for Chris Rock, the actor apologized shortly afterwards on social media. There he apparently wants to prevent the matter from being discussed further – the comment function is switched off – only selected people are now allowed to comment.
Only positive feedback in the comments
It is therefore not surprising that there on Facebook almost exclusively benevolent comments can be found. “We love you, Will!”, “That’s the way it is. Every woman deserves a king like you!”, “What kind of man you are, that you can apologize”, and many more words of approval can be read there. Even TV painter Bob Ross is quoted as saying, “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.”
While these opinions exist, they alone do not do justice to the debate surrounding the case. It can therefore be assumed that the social media team has deleted a number of comments or not allowed them at all. However, no action was taken against slogans that accepted violence, such as “Let’s be honest: the man attracts hits”. Of course, that begs the question: did he really mean his apology seriously, or was it primarily a public relations stunt to protect his reputation?
Will Smith: Escape to Dubai
According to journalist and blogger Roger Friedman, Will Smith has now fled to Dubai to sit out the matter there. He is currently in the United Arab Emirates with Sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad bin Raschid Al Maktum. The 39-year-old heir to the throne of Dubai even flew in the actor personally so that he could escape the wrath of Hollywood for a while.
