Four months have now passed since what was probably the most controversial Oscar moment in history. Comedian Chris Rock joked about Will Smith’s wife Jada, prompting the ‘Prince Of Bel Air’ star to burst onto the stage and slap the comedian in the face. In a recent video, Smith apologized for the first time while Rock slowly cracked jokes about the incident again.
“My behavior was intolerable. I’ll be here when you’re ready to talk,” Will Smith said in a video he posted to his YouTube channel. He has contacted the comedian but has not yet received an answer. Smith also apologized to Chris Rock’s family.
The incident severely damaged Will Smith’s image as a likeable, funny movie star. In addition to his reputation, his career also had to accept a small kink. Several film projects by the “Men In Black” star have been put on hold. In addition, because of the slap in the face, he is not allowed to attend the Oscars for the next 10 years.
Slap and the next day to work
Chris Rock sticks to his jokes. During an appearance in Atlanta, he commented on the incident without naming Will Smith. “Everybody’s trying to be a fucking victim. If everyone claims to be a victim, no one will listen to the real victims. Even me being slapped by Suge Smith. I went to work the next day, I have children.”
With the joke, Rock was referring to former record label boss Suge Smith, who is currently serving a prison sentence. The comedian went for the punch line after the comparison. “Anyone who says words hurt has never been slapped in the face.”
