Paul Mescal could star in the sequel to the movie Gladiator. He is currently in negotiations for the role. This is reported by the industry journal “Variety”.
Director Ridley Scott announced in 2018 that he wanted to continue his award-winning monumental film. In the original 2000 film, Russell Crowe played former general and celebrated gladiator Maximus. In a duel, Maximus kills his rival Commodus and in the end dies himself. The sequel is said to be about Commodus’ nephew Lucius. It is not yet known when filming will begin.
Mescal, 26, began his acting career in BBC serial adaptations. In 2022, the Cannes Film Festival presented drama films ‘Aftersun’ and ‘God’s Creatures’, in which the Irishman starred and was showered with praise. He has also appeared in music videos for the Rolling Stones and Phoebe Bridgers.
