Will Neukölln’s cult pub be drained?

Hangover mood in the “Kindl Klause” by Michael Hasuchaa (69). “They want me out again,” scolds the pub owner.

Just like in 2019. At that time, the house at Herrnhuter Weg 6 in Neukölln was sold. The new owner did not want the “Kindl Klause” on the ground floor to remain in the building.

BZ reports and the commitment of City Councilor Jochen Biedermann (Greens) saved the 100-year-old cult pub, Hasucha received a new lease. But it expires on August 31st. Then the lights will probably be switched off.

“The owner didn’t want to extend it again,” says Hasucha. There wasn’t even a reason. The landlord did not respond to a BZ request.

Hasucha feels like an animal being thrown out on the street. He has been part of the “Kindl-Klause” for 38 years. In 1984 he got on board. Back then, alongside his job as managing director of the Kiessling hardware store on Karl-Marx-Strasse. After the closure in 1999 full-time.

One thing is certain: The “Kindl-Klause” is living neighborhood culture! 98 percent of the guests are regular customers. The walls are wood paneled, the oldest photo is from 1930. A counterpoint in hip Neukölln. But will such arguments save Hasucha in the end? More than questionable. “My lawyer doesn’t see a chance for me there,” says Hasucha, disappointed.

But there are still nine days left. City councilor Biedermann confirms on BZ request: He has taken on the topic and is in contact with the owners!

So there is a little hope. And maybe Hasucha’s wish will come true: “I’d like to experience my 40th anniversary here in the pub,” he says. That would be in March 2024.
