Will LVR be sidelined again after elections in Roermond? † 1Limburg

There is a good chance that the LVR of Dré Peters and Jos Van Rey will once again become the largest party in Roermond after the upcoming municipal elections. That wouldn’t come as a surprise, but the question is: will the Liberal People’s Party Roermond finally rule the city again after eight years of opposition?

The two heavyweights of the party, party leader Dré Peters and list pusher Jos van Rey, will together again attract many thousands of votes, is the general expectation. But many citizens are tired of all the conflict and hassle in the city council. A breath of fresh air in politics would therefore be welcome.

resentment
LVR councilor Aijiththan Logananathan does not think that the leaders of his party should make way for others. “It is easy to point to these two people. It has to do with many people who have been on our city council for a long time. That is where the resentment comes from and we have to solve that.”

respect
The current alderman of GroenLinks Marianne Smitsmans does not exclude any party in advance. “Parties only exclude themselves. We look at the content and behaviour. I mainly want to look forward and not back. But we must have more respect for each other in the future.”
