Will it come after all? Contractor asks Den Oever for an opinion about the Waddenpoort hotel

For years there has been talk of a plan to build hotel-restaurant De Waddenpoort on a vacant lot on Havenweg in Den Oever. Now something finally seems to be happening. Tonight there will be an information meeting in the social cultural center the Viking Ship on Robbenoordstraat in Den Oever where the plans will be explained by the contractor and the architect and where residents’ opinions will be asked.

Contracting company Dozy has two designs had it developed by an Amsterdam architectural firm. The first design concerns a hotel with 45 rooms, with a revolving, panoramic restaurant on top as an eye-catcher. A viewpoint and an information center have also been drawn up. The second design is based on a larger hotel: namely a hotel-restaurant with more than 100 rooms, meeting rooms and a fitness room. But there is no room for the revolving restaurant from the first design.

There were several interested parties for the hotel when the first design was launched in 2017, but during the corona crisis they were not interested in building a new hotel. It is not clear whether there is a serious candidate for the Waddenpoort.

Earlier this year, the plans had already been discussed in a ‘legs on the table consultation’ with the Hollands Kroon municipal councilors, it reported Noordhollands Dagblad in June. This evening it’s your turn to the residents of Den Oever. The plans will be explained and an architect will show the development and variants of the hotel.

Anyone who wants is welcome at the Viking Ship social and cultural center from 7:30 PM.

The municipality of Hollands Kroon informed NH last February that it was in discussions with Dozy, but that no formal application for changing the zoning plan had yet been submitted. “But the intention is still that there will be a hotel.”

In May 2022, Dozy was still busy with preparatory work for the zoning plan. “The coming period will mainly concern the layout of the site around the hotel, such as parking spaces, the design of the underground infrastructure and coordination with utility parties, adjacent owners and the water board,” the municipality said at the time. “With this last party, it concerns the water compensation and the drainage of and connection to the system. Only once this has been done can Dozy submit the draft zoning plan to the municipality for assessment.”
