Will Coen and Sander earn more money at JOE? ‘So many tons…’

Coen Swijnenberg and Sander Lantinga shocked the radio world with their sudden move to JOE, the new sister of Qmusic. “How many tons are they going to make?”

The new radio station JOE, which recently acquired the old FM frequency of Radio 10, has brought in two famous radio DJs to do the morning show: Coen Swijnenberg and Sander Lantinga. They never supported Radio 538’s decision to break them up, and now they are getting back at their boss John de Mol.

No more money

As a duo, Coen and Sander could only be heard once a week on 538, namely on Fridays, but that channel immediately brought them to air this week. After all, every radio minute of Coen and Sander is free advertising for the competitor and that means a nice holiday for the gentlemen, whose current contract expires at the end of October.

Their transfer to JOE will mainly have to do with their reunion and not so much with money, says the country’s best-known radio columnist Patrick Kicken. A few weeks ago he had the scoop about the transfer of Coen and Sander. “I don’t think the starting amount is much higher than what they earn now,” he says The Telegraph.

Three tons the nose

What will Coen and Sander earn? “That will be around three tons per person. But I do expect that they have agreed on a bonus scheme. That if the station becomes a success, they will receive an additional five percent salary. They may also have negotiated a large advertising campaign with, for example, posters throughout the country.”

Patrick warns JOE not to bring too many talking jocks into the house. “At the moment there is little talk on the channel and they mainly let the music do the talking. The listener appreciates that and you can see that they are already reacting to the news about Coen & Sander that they are afraid of too much chatter.”

Talking to each other

The rest of the programming would be better off consisting of interchangeable types, according to Patrick. “In fact, now they only have to look for DJs who can talk nice hits to each other.”

Patrick does have confidence in Coen & Sander. “It has been good that they have not had a daily joint show for a while. By also making radio solo, they were able to discover that they are strongest together.”
