Tennis legend Boris Becker could be sawed off by the British TV broadcaster “BBC” and replaced by Roger Federer.
“Sport Bild” speculates about this. Accordingly, those responsible for the “BBC” are considering hiring Federer as a TV expert for Wimbledon. The US broadcaster “ESPN” is also toying with the idea of bringing the Swiss in front of the cameras.
At the beginning of the year, the “BBC” in the “Sport Bild” indicated that they no longer wanted to rely on Boris Becker for the tennis classic.
“We currently have no plans to work with Boris Becker,” the magazine quoted a spokesman as saying. However, the German tennis icon continues to work for “Eurosport”.
Becker recently announced that he wants to work in the tennis industry again in the future. “I still have to sort myself out a bit. In fact, I also have offers. I have to find my way around first before I take on responsibility and work,” he said at the presentation of an advertising deal with an online window mailer in Berlin.
Federer does not rule out Wimbledon job
Because of his conviction for bankruptcy offenses, Becker is not allowed to travel to England anyway. The 55-year-old was released shortly before Christmas after 231 days behind bars in England due to a special regulation for foreign prisoners.
Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in London at the end of April 2022 because he had concealed assets worth millions from his insolvency administrators. He must continue to cede part of his income to the insolvency administrator.
Federer ended his active career in September 2022. Since then, public appearances by the Swiss have been rare. The 41-year-old did not want to rule out a job as an expert recently: “I actually said that I would never become a commentator. But it would be great if I could do that in some matches at Wimbledon.”
