Alexander Nübel is on loan from FC Bayern to VfB Stuttgart until the summer. The Swabians would only be happy to sign the former Schalke talent on a permanent basis. President Alexander Wehrle has now commented on the chances of the regular keeper being retained.
Alexander Nübel’s loan to VfB Stuttgart has been a complete success so far. With the Swabians, the 27-year-old gets the playing time that he would have been denied at FC Bayern as a substitute goalkeeper behind Manuel Neuer. With the traditional club, the Paderborn native is currently in third place in the table and is therefore even heading for the Champions League.
Nevertheless, Nübel’s future remains open. According to consistent media reports, the Stuttgart team would love to convince their regular goalkeeper to stay in the country. VfB President Alexander Wehrle has now also commented on the possibility of Nübel’s continued employment.
VfB Stuttgart: Alexander Nübel “a great guy”
“He’s a great guy. Of course we want to continue with him. He’s become a crowd favorite in a very short time,” said the 49-year-old in the “Sport1” one-two and added: “But first he and Bayern Munich have to clarify the issue “They have to be clear with him, then we can talk to Nübel. Unfortunately, we have to follow this sequence of steps.”
However, one thing is clear: According to the current contract situation, the former FC Schalke 04 goalkeeper talent would initially return to FC Bayern. According to “Sport Bild”, the record champions prefer to loan the former U21 international to VfB again in the coming season.
But it is still unclear whether the keeper is prepared to make the necessary financial compromises. At VfB Stuttgart, Nübel is currently expected to forego around 50 percent of his Bayern salary and earn “only” 3.5 million euros for the current season.
