Wilfried de Jong as ‘Heintje Davids’ returns to Asser council for the fourth time

Asser D66 member Wilfried de Jong will be reinstalled as a councilor in a week. He replaces Dorien van de Kant in the three-member faction, who is going on maternity leave.

This makes Wilfried de Jong (62) ‘the Heintje Davids’ of the Asser municipal council, who keeps leaving, but also returns. This is the fourth time in six years that he has taken office in City Hall as a municipal councilor.

De Jong first came to the council for D66 in 2017. He then became a temporary councilor, replacing the sick D66 councilor Johan Niels Kuiper. He was not unknown at the time, because he had already served as a deputy councilor since 2014.

In March 2018, De Jong had barely been installed as a councilor after the elections, when he resigned again. De Assenaar was appointed alderman in the municipality of Westerveld on behalf of Progressive Westerveld, a collaboration of D66 and GroenLinks. But after just over a year, the Assen resident stumbled over the complex file surrounding lily cultivation.

In September 2020 he appeared again on the scene in Asser politics. De Jong then filled the gap left by D66 councilor Els Moltmaker, who left Assen due to a move.

In last year’s municipal elections, De Jong was in fourth place on the Asser candidate list. D66 won three seats, so he was left out again. But from Thursday, September 21, De Jong will be able to smell the political plush again for a while in a real council seat.
