Wilfred Genee keeps the studio door of Today Inside closed for Gordon. The reason? His worrying mental state. “We are protecting that man from himself.”
An ethically correct choice by Wilfred Genee: he decides to close the door on Gordon now that he still offers himself to participate in the talk show. The fallen entertainer canceled his VI performance last week last minute only to suddenly disappear completely into anonymity again. This week he returned again and now he still wants to go to VI.
‘We let it run’
Media jojo Gordon strangely enough accompanies his request to VI with strong insults to the program and to star of the show René van der Gijp. Many people are concerned about Goor’s mental state and Wilfred thinks the same. He can choose to score sky-high viewing figures on Goors’ back, but he decides not to do so.
“We have to protect that man from himself, so we’ll let things run smoothly for a while. I am a bit worried about that man,” the presenter said talk show on SBS 6.
Shit program
René van der Gijp agrees with that decision. “He’s now going to shout that he wants to sit here and then he’s going to say that it’s a shitty program that he never watches. Then I think: what he should do is just tell his story to Humberto and sing a song a cappella. Then I’ll say something about it the next day! Hahahaha! Much nicer.”
So the VI door is completely closed for Gordon. Wilfred clarifies Show news: “Look, we actually deliberately let Gordon walk a bit tonight, also because we think we need to protect Gordon from himself a bit. I think Johan had shouted: ‘Fuck off Gordon, I’m done with that.’”
‘Best for him’
Johan was not in VI last night due to illness. “But I’m sure he would have shouted something like that. I must also say that the best man needs to get some rest. That’s the best for him. And that we should leave it for a while. You can fight it out all over again, but there’s no point in that.”
This is really commendable of Wilfred, says Shownieuws expert Leontien van Moorsel. “I think we have to protect him and I think Wilfred says that very well.”
Principle
Story boss Guido den Aantrekker thinks that everyone can see how Gordon is doing and that Wilfred makes the only right decision. “It would of course be very good for the viewing figures, but it could also be out of principle that the gentlemen simply say: ‘We’re just not doing it.’”
Ronald Molendijk thinks Gordon needs help and not media exposure. “Those are the wisest words I have heard in the past half hour,” he says about Wilfred’s statements. “Leave that man alone.”
