Wilfred Genee reprimands Beau: ‘Protect Gordon from himself!’

Wilfred Genee believes that Beau van Erven Dorens has gone too far by deflating Gordon so uncritically on television. “I would have handled it a little differently, let me put it this way.”

The criticism that Beau van Erven Dorens receives for his legendary bad TV interview with Gordon is justified, according to ratings gun Wilfred Genee. The presenter of Today Inside also took a look at the episode of Casa di Beau and believes that Beau has failed terribly as a presenter, TV maker, producer and as a person.

No contradiction

Wilfred brings up the disaster interview last night the first VI of 2024. “You’re not allowed to argue? A bit like what Beau had with Gordon? That you’re not allowed to go against it? You just have to let it happen?” he sneers.

Table guest Özcan Akyol: “Yes, no, I received it. It wasn’t a good interview, I understood. Or do you?”

René van der Gijp: “No, of course not.”

Johan Derksen: “Sometimes talk show people want a certain guest and then they make arrangements. ‘You can tell your story and I won’t interrupt’, but that never works, because people notice that immediately.”

Approached differently

Özcan bounces the ball back to Wilfred. “Beats. Beau didn’t do a good job, don’t you think?”

Wilfred: “Well, I would have handled it a little differently, let me put it this way.”

Johan: “Yes, he ran away from you after two minutes, that Gordon.”

Wilfred: “I think so too, yes.”

Özcan: “This here is a live program. People see everything we say. But with a program like that… They probably did an interview with him for hours”

In protection

Conscious choices were made in the direction to pamper Gordon, Özcan thinks. “Then they go to the editor and the editor makes choices, such as: what am I going to show? It is very deliberate that they wanted to show this to us. You could also blame the editor, like: why do you choose this as a highlight?”

Small note: that editor also works for Beau. This was a Beau production. And as an experienced TV maker, he should have simply intervened, Wilfred believes. “Don’t you think in Gordon’s case that you should protect such a man from himself? That you better not do it?”

Feel good

Özcan agrees. “Yes, but that’s what the media always say, like: that man is crazy, we shouldn’t give him a platform anymore, but in three months it will happen again. You can also have some criticism of the media, such as: why are we inviting him?”

Johan: “Gordon is in the spotlight and has done and said all kinds of crazy things. I can imagine that a Beau like that would want to have him at a lake like that to have a cry. In retrospect, an editor should say: guys, this cost 30,000 euros in total, but we’re throwing it away, this is not good for your career.”

Benefits affair

It is actually incomprehensible that Gordon is crying so much on national television, Wilfred concludes. “Then you think about the people involved in the benefits affair or who live in Groningen while their house is collapsing and they are really having a hard time, you know. Then you get such an uncomfortable feeling.”

Özcan concludes: “It’s not journalism, is it? It’s entertainment.”
