Wilfred Genee confirms ‘tension in the air’ at Today Inside

Wilfred Genee confirms that there is ‘tension in the air’ at Today Inside, as many viewers of the Friday broadcast already suspected. “I feel exactly what is in the air.”

The men of Today Inside have regularly been at odds with each other over the years and now it seems like bumblebees again. Dissatisfaction about the contract negotiations with Talpa has been simmering for a few weeks. René van der Gijp does not feel like a new contract and does not want to make extra long broadcasts on Friday evening.

René angry at Johan

Johan Derksen doesn’t think that’s a problem (‘If I have to work twenty minutes longer with the salary I earn, then I can live with it’) and is diametrically opposed to René in that sense. But last night during an icy broadcast of Today Inside it turned out that there is still something going on between the two gentlemen.

What’s going on? René appears to blame his colleagues, especially Johan, for the disappointing broadcast with Mark Rutte. The prime minister had to answer the question countless times whether it is not time to resign, which meant that a substantive discussion was hardly possible.

Five seconds of silence

Now that Rutte will join VI again next week – he will be there on Wednesday – René wants to prevent a repeat of moves. If his colleagues want to do the same thing again, the football analyst says he will stay at home. That comment led to a silence at the table of no less than five seconds, highly unusual at VI.

Viewers speculate that a new VI crisis is in the air and that seems to be true. Wilfred looks in the online section In The Hallways with studio guest Merel Ek back on this remarkable broadcast.

“Something’s in the Air”

Wilfred brings it up: “It was another very special broadcast. That was it. Did you still feel some of the fun here tonight?”

As he starts laughing, Merel says, “Well, I don’t know. You have a very strange mood. What is this?”

Wilfred: “Hahahaha. No, it was a very special broadcast and that was it.”

Merel: “What makes it so special for you? You’ve been through this for years.”

Wilfred: “Yes, no, that’s exactly why. Then you feel exactly what is in the air.”

Merel: “Then what? What is this? You always enjoy a little struggle, a little friction.”

‘There is tension’

Wilfred then looks at the backstage staff and says: “I have the impression that the people who have worked here a little longer really feel what I mean. Hahahahaha!”

Merel: “But tell me!”

Wilfred: “No, no, no, that is also for the people at home…”

Merel: “This is called In De Wandelgangen. Here you discuss exactly what happens in the corridors.”

Wilfred: “Yes, but let’s just see if we’re back on Monday. That’s always the most important thing. haha.”

Merel: “Yes, okay, so there was some tension this evening?”

ginger tea

Wilfred confirms that: “Yeah, I felt like there was…”

Then he tries to avoid the conversation: “Hey, look, that’s the ginger for me! They got me ginger because I like ginger tea. So much for The Walkways!”

Merel: “So easy again!”

Wilfred: “What would you like to hear then?”

Merel: “Well, that friction, that tension. Exciting!”

Wilfred: “Oh, okay, well, then you have to look on Monday.”
