Wild game from VfB Stuttgart – Bayer Leverkusen pulls away

VfB Stuttgart started the game outstandingly, scored twice and shortly afterwards played in the majority. Leverkusen also won.

The Swabians started the game furiously and led after just seven minutes thanks to goals from striker Deniz Undav (3rd minute) and national player Chris Führich (7th). Just a little later, the next shock for Freiburg: After a serious foul on Maximilian Mittelstädt (18th), Merlin Röhl saw red – the SC was now outnumbered.

Lukas Kübler made it 1:2 from Freiburg’s perspective shortly before the break. The defensive player took advantage of a mistake by VfB keeper Alexander Nübel and brought the ball over the line. Shortly before the end, Stuttgart’s Mittelstädt scored a remarkable lob to make the final score 3-1.

The duel was different in the second half. Stuttgart let the ball run, but got through much less often, and Freiburg no longer seemed without a chance either. Maximilian Eggestein (52′ and 90’+5) could have scored twice, Michael Gregoritsch’s header (90’+2) was cleared off the line. It was a shaky affair for Stuttgart, SC also posed danger from set pieces – but Mittelstädt’s goal had a reassuring effect. Eleven minutes were played in the first half and another ten minutes after the second. The reason for this was VAR intervention and protests from the fans traveling with us.

Darmstadt is defeated by Leverkusen

Bayern can come: Bayer Leverkusen easily mastered its dress rehearsal before the league summit. Coach Xabi Alonso’s team won 2-0 (1-0) against bottom team Darmstadt 98 and goes into the top game against Munich next Saturday as league leaders. Before that, however, a big chunk awaits in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup with VfB Stuttgart on Tuesday.

Double packer Nathan Tella (33rd and 52nd) scored the “Werkself” to their fifth win in a row against the “Lilien”. Bayer remained unbeaten in the 29th game of the season and surpassed its club record streak from the 1978/79 second division season of 28 games without defeat. Darmstadt, on the other hand, has been waiting for a win for 13 games and is still at the bottom of the league.

Mainz’s fear of relegation is growing

The relegation-threatened FSV Mainz 05 has nothing left to laugh about before the climax of the crazy hustle and bustle in the carnival stronghold. The Rheinhessen lost the Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen on Saturday with 0:1 (0:1). With the ninth league game without a win, the hopes of the second-to-last in the table of staying in the league are dwindling more and more.

The match winner in front of 31,800 spectators was Werder’s top scorer Marvin Ducksch, who scored the winning goal after just under two minutes. With his ninth goal of the season he secured his third success in a row.

The game started extremely unfortunate for the Mainz team and perfect for the guests. After a cross pass from Olivier Deman, Anthony Caci shot at his teammate Tom Krauß. The ball bounced to Ducksch, who, unchallenged, quickly took the lead from close range. “It’s a constant throughout the season: we’re not unlucky,” said 05 President Stefan Hofmann during the half-time break on Sky. However, he attested that his team played “a good game”.
