A 19-year-old man from Belgium was arrested on Monday afternoon after a wild police chase on the A58. The man ignored a stop sign for a check, took off at full throttle and broke part of the guardrail. He also had no driver’s license and was driving under the influence of drugs.
The Marechaussee wanted to detain the man around five o’clock in the afternoon when he crossed the Belgian-Dutch border on the A16 near Breda. When the military police gave him a stop sign, he ignored it and took off at high speed. The Marechaussee and later the police gave chase with three cars.
The man drove over the hard shoulder and zigzagged through traffic, endangering other traffic. He turned around at the Ulvenhout exit. He then broke part of the guardrail. Finally, the police managed to stop the man, after which he was arrested on the hard shoulder along the A58 near Tilburg.
The teenager is suspected of ignoring a stop sign, driving without a license, dangerous driving, speeding and driving under the influence of drugs. The man is in custody pending further investigation.
