Owen Wijndal has been loaned out to Antwerp by Ajax. At the club of trainer Mark van Bommel and technical director Marc Overmars, he is the successor to Gastón Avila, who was recently sold to Ajax for more than twelve million euros.
Wijndal exchanged AZ for Ajax more than a year ago. The former captain of the Alkmaarders cost ten million euros at the time, but did not succeed in conquering a starting place. This season he hardly had any prospect of playing minutes in Amsterdam. Last Sunday, Wijndal was not part of the match selection and Avila played on the left side of the defense.
Although the transfer market in the Netherlands is closed, Wijndal can still go to another club. In Belgium, the market closes on September 6. At Antwerp, the left back can play in the Champions League. The Belgian club qualified for the main tournament last week and is in a group with Barcelona, FC Porto and Shakhtar Donetsk.
