Wiegman and English football players honored in the heart of London

National coach Sarina Wiegman and the English football players will be honored on Monday afternoon at Trafalgar Square in London. This square in the English capital can accommodate up to 7,000 visitors. They can enter for free and can cheer the ‘Lionesses’ at the beginning of the afternoon. The BBC will broadcast the ceremony live.

The English football players conquered the European title on Sunday by beating record champions Germany 2-1 in front of almost 90,000 spectators at Wembley. Wiegman became the first national coach to win the European Championship with two different countries. Five years ago she led the Netherlands to the European title in her own country.

Trafalgar Square already served as a fan zone last week. English football fans saw their country beat Sweden (4-0) and Germany in the semi-finals on large screens in the square.

“This is an iconic moment for English football,” said FA director Mark Bullingham. “Everyone is so proud of the players, Sarina and the staff. They have captured the hearts of everyone in the country. This achievement will always be remembered.” London mayor Sadiq Khan and British sports minister Nadine Dorries also praise the performance of Wiegman and her players.
