Widows, saints and hats: Berlin’s street style trends for SS24

Berlin is known for its wild techno parties and free development. Gender norms and neat looks do not play first fiddle in the German (fashion) capital and yet the visitors to the fashion week seem to be following a spiritual path.

For the summer edition of the fashion event, the Berliners have dressed up properly – of course still in Berlin style. The priests doffed their hats to the widows, who together celebrated the holy festival of fashion.

Hats off!

While the visitors to the other European fashion shows and fairs have focused on the Wild West look with a matching cowboy hat, the Berliners are hat individualists – there every hat is different with its own look.

More current street styles:

Only the men seem to have agreed on a matching look with vertical stripes, but the styles differ there too. Basically, however, it is more classic pieces, such as shirts and blouses, which are combined with hats – some of the headgear even reminds you of the ‘good Sunday outfit’ for church – but wide, casual silhouettes can also be seen.

Holy fashion

Not only church visitors can be found among the fashion pilgrims. Some, with their mostly wide robes, seem to be directly inspired by church officials.

The pieces are mostly black and white. The straps play with the silhouette, which can be wide but also straight. Headgear and necklaces reminiscent of rosaries complete the look.

widow look

From the church it goes directly to the tomb of Namilia. Because the fans of the Berlin label in particular showed themselves in a gothic aesthetic. Veils of dark tulle frame and obscure faces while revealing other areas – similar to the looks the brand was showing on the runway at the same time. Compared to the loose veil, the rest of the outfit was mostly body-hugging and tight-fitting. Large dark sunglasses and cross necklaces completed the widow’s look.

summer breeze

In contrast to the gloomy mood, there were also some relaxed, casual looks that make it clear that summer has arrived in the German capital. Coarse-meshed shirts and tops as well as sleeveless tops were particularly popular – tank and crop tops as well as sleeveless shirts. Even neon colors and bright tones played a role here.
