The German national handball team showed a strong game against Hungary. Before the game, things in the dressing room were a little more aggressive than usual.
The German selection showed a significantly more confident and courageous performance than against Austria. A small change in the dressing room before the game could have been responsible for this.
Cabin DJ was canceled
It was only on the day of the match that it became known that Timo Kastening would not be able to play against Hungary due to illness. In addition to their right winger, who had previously been in the starting lineup, the team also lost their cabin DJ. Kastening is the one who is usually supposed to get the team excited before the game with his music selection.
In Kastening’s absence, goalkeeper Andreas Wolff took over this task. “There is a history that Andi likes to complain about the music that is usually playing in the dressing room,” explained team captain Johannes Golla at a press conference on Tuesday. After Kastening’s loss, the team said to him: “Andi, now is your chance to show that you can do better.”
“A little more aggressive”
And lo and behold: the team showed a convincing performance after Wolff gave the warm-up. “He is now firmly convinced that it was because he played the right music,” Golla reported with a smile. “I can’t promise whether he’ll continue it. He did it well yesterday and it served the purpose.”
But what was Wolff playing in the dressing room? “It was all over the place. But if you have to describe it compared to Timo, then the whole thing is a bit more aggressive,” explained Golla. “You can tell that Andi gets into the mood with different music than Timo. But it served the purpose, so we probably have to find a compromise now and take an intermediate path,” said the captain. Christoph Steinert explained afterwards: “It’s very electronic with him. Music is always a question of taste. Andi definitely liked it.”
Justus Fischer was also not impressed by the choice of goalkeeper. The young cyclist also has his own unique taste in music. “For me, Andi clearly missed the point,” he complained. “I listen to Christmas songs all year round. I also play Jingle Bells in the weight room in the summer.”
