27 years after his crime, these are some of the reasons why we should not forget José Luis Cabezas:
– Because his murder was the worst attack on Freedom of Expression in democracy.
– Because since January 25, 1997, his family could not stop suffering from his absence every day.
– Because that tear was suffered by the press workers, their co-workers, their friends and the entire Argentine society.
– Because in his murder there was a mafia message of silencing the entire press and the entire country.
– Because his crime laid bare how the business and police mafias functioned in Argentina.
– Because from the darkest places of power they sought to obstruct the truth and cover up criminals.
– Because the Cabezas family, their colleagues and the entire society came out to demand justice as had never happened in the entire world for the crime of a journalist.
– Because José Luis became a symbol of the fight for freedom and the search for truth.
– Because despite that fight and the exemplary sentences that were obtained, today all the murderers are unjustly free, having served a minimal part of their sentence.
– Because José Luis was a simple worker who the only thing he did was fulfill his mission of informing through photography.
– Because journalism will never be the same since January 25.
– Because those of us who knew José Luis know of his quality as a person and his commitment to his work and life.
– And because we miss him every moment.
For all that and much more, we do not forget José Luis Cabezas.
