Only 1 in 3 Flemish people still go to the cemetery to commemorate their loved ones. The dreary, gray appearance of many cemeteries keeps more and more people away. And above all: we have discovered other ways to keep the dead alive in our memories, says grief expert Manu Keirse: “Death is further away than it used to be. Then it is not illogical that the way we deal with it also changes.”
