Hollywood star Chris Evans (41) has millions of followers, but a completely outdated iPhone. Now Captain America is finally switching.
It’s such a thing with smartphones today: It feels like you need a new one every year, even though the devices are becoming more and more expensive and updates are becoming ever shorter.
Apple products last longer, but one new release follows the other. HIM hardly cares: Chris Evans, who thanks to the Marvel films made it to the eighth highest paid actor in the world in 2019. Annual fee: loud “Forbes” almost 44 million dollars!
His cell phone is almost seven years old
Chris Evans (his new Neftlix movie “The Gray Man” starts next week) hasn’t upgraded his old iPhone for a long time. It was already a few years old.
The megastar recently admitted that in 2022 he would still be using his 6s model. As a reminder: The antiquated part appeared at the end of 2015. You can buy used copies for as little as 50 euros. Only one camera on the back, thick display edges, a pushable button on the front and only 16 to 128 GB of memory are evidence of a different time.
By today’s technical standards, Evans’ device is a real mobile phone dino. Apple hasn’t even given the 6s model any updates since 2018. Finally, in June, the change: The Captain America actor announced on Instagram that he would actually switch to a new model.
“Rest in peace,” Evans wrote. “I’ll miss your home button. But don’t try the struggle every night to charge yourself. Or your noisy pictures. Or your sudden drop from 100% battery to 15% (…)”
The 6s series was certainly not considered a battery monster, but why did the Evans last so long? It was certainly not due to the lack of money…
Opposite to “colliders” The actor now explained: It was mainly the home button that he didn’t want to part with! “Will I miss him? Definitely,” Evans said.
Apple said goodbye to the iconic button for everything in 2017, and has relied on face recognition and gesture control since the 10 model. Even today, the tech giant still sells cheaper models with a home button like the iPhone SE.
But that didn’t occur to Cap. Him: “No! I do not want that! I want the 6 I want to use something until it stops working.”
Evans: “My new phone is too heavy”
While many acting colleagues, but also Apple fans and Instagram users, upgrade to the new model every year, Evans focuses on sustainability. Which is why he is baking comparatively small rolls with the long-delayed successor: his new cell phone is an iPhone 12, although the 14 is already in the starting blocks.
Evans still has to get used to the new design. Chris: “I think my new phone is too heavy. I know that makes me the oldest dinosaur alive, but the problem is…it’s just the way it is.”
After all, he brought it to over 17 million followers on Instagram with his ancient cell phone. Which is certainly due to his cute dog, who dominates the admittedly quite pixelated selfies on the channel.
No way, as a star and influencer you need the very best technology…
