A charging cable swings around in the trunk of our hybrid rental car, still dirty with mud. All of a sudden, the question I got from a reader comes to mind: why is the charging cable of electric cars not actually on a reel, like with vacuum cleaners? The current cables swing loose in the rear or front trunk, you have to grab it, plug it in and then it lies on the often wet and/or dirty ground. And afterwards everything is reversed. With a reel you can simply pull out the cable towards the charging point.
