Why is Assen buzzing? Agenda boards on black

It’s a dead mess in Assen. You quickly get that idea when you drive into the city, whether you enter via east, west, south or north. The four digital signs at the access roads have been black for some time now.

And that while the city council prides itself on the fact that the provincial capital is bustling with events. That is why a decent amount of money is spent on city marketing.

But that ‘bubbly’ cannot be read on the electronic Asser Agenda. Tourists therefore do not get anything from the Kids Summer entertainment in the city center, or about Sunday shopping on August 28. The Drents Museum also remains unmentioned, precisely at a time when it houses masterpieces such as Rembrandt’s De Vaandeldrager and the Nebradisk.

Since 2015, the operator of the Asser LED screens has been the company Impressive LED of entrepreneur Alwin Krans. He is shocked when he hears that the agenda boards are completely black. “They still did it at Jack’s Racing Day, I saw it myself then,” he shouts. That event was at the TT Circuit a week and a half ago, but since then some screens have been ‘off the air’ for several days. “Are you sure you don’t see anything? Because the sun sometimes shines on it in such a way that it is difficult to read”, Krans wonders.
