Turkey’s presidential elections will be held on Sunday. There is a growing chance that ‘eternal leader’ Recep Tayyip Erdogan (69) will even lose in the first round. That would be a good thing for democracy and respect for human rights — and it would teach the world that full and half dictators can indeed be dethroned without bloodshed. Yet there is a secret hope in the West that Erdogan wins. Why then?
