Harry Vermeegen finds it unbelievable that after the Johnny de Mol issue, Talpa again responds so mildly to a celebrity who allegedly abused his girlfriend. He thinks Peter Gillis should get out.
SBS 6 now has two stars who are suspected of assault: Johnny de Mol and Peter Gillis. The transmitter top doesn’t seem to do much. Unbelievable, thinks opinion maker Harry Vermeegen. “Hitting women is therefore never possible. That’s in my top three of the worst things in life,” he says on his opinion channel.
Gillis of the tube?
Only after a lot of pressure from outside and celebrities who no longer wanted to join, Johnny himself decided to temporarily resign as presenter of HLF8. Also in Peter’s case, SBS 6 is now reacting cautiously. The channel does not yet want to say whether the new season of Peters soap will still start on Monday 6 September.
According to Harry, there is only one appropriate response: putting Peter out on the street, at least temporarily. “That Gillis hit his Nicol and not just a little bit. It turns out, because the man has been incarcerated overnight. Then you didn’t just give such a small corrective tap. No!”
‘Terrible!’
It is not for nothing that a case is made, says Harry. “A police report has also been drawn up and the Public Prosecution Service has said: ‘We are going to prosecute you on the basis of that report’, which means that there have simply been very bad blows. That is terrible of course.”
The general reaction to Peter’s alleged misconduct has been very mild, according to the critic. “The crazy thing that’s going on now, and I’m so afraid of that, that we’re going to think it’s a bit normal in the Netherlands. That we shrug our shoulders a bit and that we think: well, it will be.”
little excitement
Harry thinks people are getting used to it. “With that Lil Kleine it was like… Then everyone was still a bit angry and they thought that was going too far with that Jaimie. And that Lil Kleine disappeared from the picture, because that was of course no longer possible and it will also be continued later. We agreed that it was going too far.”
That was less with Johnny, says Harry. “There was less excitement there. He was eventually removed from the tube. Well, yes, but that was it. And now we see with the Gillis… What do we see now? Very little excitement. It seems like everyone thinks: if you feel like it once in a while, give your wife a beating.”
According to Harry, that is really not possible. “No! No of course not!”
“Go ahead!”
The reaction of Talpa, John de Mol’s media company, is really too mild, Harry thinks. “He will not be fired at Talpa at all. They all think that too: go ahead.”
“Let’s agree on one thing: that we will never consider hitting women normal.”
